PANO – The Vietnamese Defence Television Channel (QPVN) went on air on May 19th, on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday. Reporters of Army’s People Newspaper had a small talk with Meritorious Artist Colonel Nguyen Hoai Nam, Director of the Army Radio-Television Centre and Editor-in-Chief of the Defence Television Channel.
As stated, the national construction and protection cause is the strategic and consistent task of the Vietnamese revolution. Over the past years, though many TV channels made their debuts, there is no official one to popularize the fatherland’s protection cause. However, the Central Military Party Commission, Defence Ministry and General Department of Politics have particularly showed their interest in this issue. As a result, it is necessary to establish a specialized channel with the aim at promptly and regularly broadcasting orthodox information, guidelines and policies of the Party and State, and resolutions of the Central Military Party Commission and Defence Ministry.
Along with the military press, QPVN will make considerable contributions to promoting quality and efficiency in educating and disseminating military and national defence missions, results of building up the army, defensive areas and whole-people defence posture in the new context, and tasks of protecting and developing the socialist country. Besides, it will be an interesting communication product for people from all social strata, as well as armed forces.
Colonel Nam said that relevant units designed suitable programs to meet requirements in principle and have special features different from other TV channels. Basically, QPVN specializes in providing information on military and national defence missions in the national construction and protection, and covering programs related to everyday life to draw audiences.
QPVN will highlight some main categories, including News-Political Commentary; National Defence Education; Science-Education; and Culture-Movie-Sports.
In addition to typical programs, such as “Mau xanh chien si” (Soldiers in Green”, “Xung danh anh hung” (Deserving to the Hero title), “Hau Phuong nguoi chien si” (In the rear of soldiers), “Quan y va doi song” (Army medical corps and life) and “Nha hat truyen hinh Quan doi” (Defence television channel theatre), QPVN will broadcast many programs relating to soldiers’ daily life in the army environment, including “Thoi de nho” (Time to remember), “Song trong quan ngu” (Life in the army), “O noi toi dong quan” (Localities where our units are stationed), Radar and TV, “Chuyen ke o dai doi” (Stories in companies) and “Nu quan nhan” (Female troops).
Especially, the “Stories in companies”, which has attracted viewers across the country on the Defence Radio for many years, will be broadcast on QPVN to serve demand of TV viewers, especially young troops, said Colonel Nam.
“Eveything begins with the difficulty, as the saying goes, leaders of the Army Radio-Television Centre focused on human resources. After two selections for applications, the unit employed nearly 150 reporters, editors, MCs and technicians. Among them, 20 per cent have experience in this job, while others joined training courses at Vietnam Television.
In order to attract more viewers, according to Colonel Nam, the centre will continue to improve its troops and employees’ professionalism to meet their increasing demands in tasks.
In addition, the Army Radio-Television Centre will work together with the military-run telecom group Viettel to improve its technique facilities, and with othe TV teams in the whole-army units to gradually meet requirements to draw more and more viewers inside and outside the army in the upcoming time, said Colonel Nam.
