HCM CITY (VNS)— The Appeals Court of the Supreme People’s Court in HCM City yesterday reduced the prison sentence on Pham Nguyen Thanh Binh, born 1983 and resident in HCM City, from three years to two years.
Binh will also be on probation for three years after he finishes his prison term.
According to the indictment, in early 2012, Binh met Nguyen Xuan Chau from a reactionary organisation in Australia. He agreed to write eight articles for Chau with the contents distorting the Party’s guidelines and the Government’s management, as well as slandering Vietnamese leaders.
Chau then posted these articles on the internet to incite the public to rise up against the State. During the investigation process, Binh showed a sincere and co-operative attitude and asked for clemency. — VNS
