Seafood exports reach US$3.41 billion in seven months

(VEN) – Seafood export revenues reached US$592 million this July and US$3.41 billion in the first seven months of this year, a 0.7 percent increase from a year ago.







The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that seafood production amounted to 3.3 million tonnes in seven months, a 2.5 percent increase from the same period last year, of which 1.5 million tonnes was caught, a 5.2 percent increase, and 1.78 million tonnes were raised.


The growth was partially due to the favorable weather and the increase in the number of fishing equipment and fishing capacity.


The US remained Vietnam’s largest seafood export market accounting for 20.5 percent of all seafood earnings. Vietnam sold more than US$609.2 million worth of seafood to the US in the first six months of this year, a six percent increase from a year ago.Seafood exports to China and Hong Kong-China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and Brazil also increased by 27.7 percent, 11.8 percent and 76.5 percent from a year ago, respectively. However, seafood exports declined in several markets such as the European Union (EU) dropping by 7.8 percent, Japan down by 1.3 percent, and the Republic of Korea down by 19.5 percent./.
