City marks National Day with scholarships to poor students

Ho Chi Minh City marked National Day by offering scholarships to several poor but outstanding students.


A delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Van Ranh, Member of the City Standing Committee, Head of Mass Mobilization Section of the City Party Committee, on August 31 visited and gave gifts to two Vietnamese heroic mothers and six families under preferential policies in Binh Chanh District.


Later, at the Sports Center of Binh Chanh District, the delegation gave 50 scholarships, worth VND1 million each, to poor students and 100 gifts, worth VND350,000 each, to families under preferential policies and to poor households.


On the same day, Phuoc Kien Language Study Encouragement Society of District 5 also gave 98 scholarships, worth VND1 million each; two scholarships, worth VND10 million each to two PhD freshmen; and seven scholarships, worth VND1 million each to seven Master students.


Nhan Thien Scholarship Fund of Ben Tre Province also gave scholarships to more than 500 outstanding students in the province. For the school year 2013-2014, the fund has given 800 scholarships, worth more than VND1.45 billion.
