The Hanoitimes – The General Department of Energy and Singapore-based Sembcorp Industrial Ltd. on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of a BOT thermal power plant in Dung Quat Economic Zone in central province of Quang Ngai.
The two-turbine plant is set to have a capacity of 1,200 MW and will be fueled by imported coal.
The project with total investment of US$2 billion is expected to come into operation by March 2021.
The Dung Quat EZ authority predicted the zone would need 1,663 megawatts of power by 2020 to supply oil refinery plants, shipbuilding factories as well as several heavy and light industries.
Singapore is now a leading trade and investment partner of Viet Nam. The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the 5th Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Park in the province.
The two PMs have elevated the two countries’ ties to strategic partnership during their talks held in Ha Noi on September 11, paving the broader way for the two sides to build greater things in the context of the building of ASEAN Community.
