Japanese news agency Kyodo has quoted an info source saying that the suggestion was put forward by former Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan during a meeting with Japanese lawmakers in Beijing on Wednesday. Tang Jiaxuan was quoted as saying that “crisis management for aviation activities is necessary” and that this issue should be discussed. Japan and other countries including the US and the Republic of Korea strongly oppose Beijing’s new zone, which includes islands disputed by Tokyo and Beijing and encroaches on South Korea’s ADIZ. These countries say that they don’t recognize China’s new ADIZ and will keep up their patrol activities in the zone.
