Indonesia’s air travel sector has vowed to improve aviation security and safety as a preparation for the ASEAN Open Sky Policy in 2015.

Newly-appointed Chairman of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) Arif Wibowo affirmed that the work is extremely important for the country’s airlines to compete with others in the region and the world when the policy is put into full operation in 2015.

INACA will join forces with the government to tackle this work, Arif Wibowo added.

The ASEAN Open Skies Policy is expected to boost air connectivity in the region. It will help bring down barriers to trade and facilitate the travel of migrant labourers and tourists, thus contributing to the economic development of member countries.

ASEAN, which groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, has agreed to gradually implement the policy so that it can provide maximum liberty for regional airlines by 2020.-VNA
