HA NOI — In the aftermath of super-typhoon Haiyan, the 14th storm to hit Viet Nam this year, 14 were dead, 4 were missing and 81 were injured, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.


The deaths and injuries occurred while the individuals were reinforcing houses and trimming trees in preparation for the typhoon.


The border force of northern Quang Ninh province is seeking four people who went missing when a ship sank.

The National Committee for Search and Rescue and the National Steering Committee for Flood Prevention and Control sent an order to the corresponding committees in coastal provinces from Quang Binh to Ca Mau and the ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Development and Transport asking them to prepare for the upcoming super-typhoon. Haiyan made landfall in the northern Quang Ninh and Hai Phong region yesterday, causing heavy rain and strong wind.


Torrential rain of 109-137mm was recorded in northeastern provinces, especially Hai Phong and Quang Ninh. —VNS
