(VOV) -Vietnam’s large population and abundant labour force have created both opportunities and challenges for the country.

November 1, 2013 marks Vietnam’s population growth over the level of 90 million when the country is entering a period of ‘golden population structure’ with plenty of opportunity for its socio-economic development.

Of its 90 million population, 70% are in the working age providing abundant labour force for the country to speed up its modernization and modernization process.

To exploit them to full advantage, experts emphasized the need for a change in policies and laws on population growth to create jobs, reduce the rate of unemployment and improve people’s living conditions.

Population growth should be on a par with improvement in social welfare, they added.

There is no denying that Vietnam’s labourers are mostly unskilled, and unable to fit in with their jobs. So, priority should be given to improving human resource training as well as insurance, education and healthcare services up to regional and international standards.

In addition, there is a growing concern about how to ensure gender equality and better care for the elderly in the face of growing crime and other social evils.
