More than 50 pagodas, temples, churches along with offices and enterprises in the ancient town of Hoi An will restore the tradition of planting “Cay neu” (Tet pole), a folk ritual during the lunar New Year holiday.
The pole is made of bamboo and decorated with lanterns, wind bell, traditional flags and objects of faith, such as leaves of banyan tree and branches of catus.People believe that the things hung up on the “Cay neu” will chase away all bad thing and devils. Therefore people will have a happy New Year.
The ceremony is scheduled to start from January 29 th and end on February 6.
Vice director of the Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation, Tran Van An said that the tradition of planting “Cay neu” has been restores for three years in the city. It is an impressive and beautiful custom of Vietnamese people during traditional Tet.
