The Hanoitimes – Working with local top-ranking officials on April 26 in the Mekong Delta region, PM Dung suggested the locality pay more attention to the processing industry and technology application to production, at the mean time accelerating economic structure transformation.
During his working session with leaders of Can Tho City, PM has asked the city to be more creative and dynamic in reforming its economic structure and expanding its export markets in order to become a leading driver of development in the Mekong Delta region. He also stressed the need for Can Tho City to carry out more drastic measures to combine the building of new-style rural areas with poverty reduction and vocational training in order to improve the living conditions of rural residents. In the first quarter of 2014, Can Tho city posted a GDP growth of 8.32 percent. This year, it is continuing to focus on solving difficulties for its enterprises, boosting production, increasing competitiveness in business and calling for investment in its advantageous fields.
PM also urged Bac Lieu Province to focus on transforming its economic structure and reducing the current poverty rate of 9%. The province needs to attach importance to education and vocational training as it plays a decisive role in building foundations for the locality’s development. The Government chief also asked Bac Lieu to beef up progress of key infrastructure projects, especially wind power ones in order to create premises for development in other sectors and new jobs as well.
Earlier on April 25, PM Nguyen Tan Dung visited a wind power project in Vinh Trach Dong Commune, Bac Lieu City. This is one of the first wind power projects in Viet Nam. The first ten turbines of this project have generated over 20,000 MW for the national grid so far though they are not operating at their full designed capacity. The installation of an additional 52 turbines in the project’s second phase with a total investment of US $197 million is being sped up. These facilities are expected to be put into operation by the end of next year.
