Ho Chi Minh City traffic police say they will launch undercover nighttime patrols to catch illegal racers, news website VnExpress reported.
The police say the move is part of a three-month campaign, which begins Friday, that will be implemented on roads with high accidents rates, including National Highways 1,13, 22, 50 and the Hanoi Highway.
Accidents on these roads usually occur due to speeding, drunk driving, overloaded and oversized trucks, they said.
More police officers will be mobilized to patrol the roads around-the-clock. After 10 p.m., the officers will wear plain clothes to catch illegal racers.
The plainclothes officers will be equipped with cameras, tape recorders and breathalyzers to deal with traffic violators.
During the campaign, HCMC police will also tackle sidewalk encroachment by street vendors.
