PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Truong Quang Khanh, Deputy Minister of National Defence, received Senator Bob Corker, the ranking member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on his visit to Vietnam.
At the reception on August 4th at the Ministry’s headquarters, the host and the guest laid stress on the fruitful ties between the two countries since the establishment of the comprehensive partnership.
Senator Bob Corker held that the two sides have been actively negotiating to sign the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement as soon as possible.
Regarding the Vietnam-US agreement on civil nuclear cooperation which has been recently approved by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and will come into effect in coming days, Senator Bob Corker expressed his belief that this deal would allow US companies to penetrate into Vietnam’s market to develop nuclear energy.
General Khanh said that though the two countries have normalized their relations for 19 years now, the US has not lifted its ban on lethal weapon sales to Vietnam. Therefore, the Vietnamese general hoped that as a ranking member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator Bob Corker would voice his support to Vietnam in the call for the US Government to lift that ban soon, regarding it as an important and necessary matter to prove the mutual trust and complete relation normalization between the two countries.
