According to Hai Phong Port Authority, by the end of September 2014, Hai Phong seaport areas received 13,373 ship arrivals, an increase of 10% as compared to the same period of 2013 and 8,070 inland waterway vessel arrivals, up 24% over the same period last year. Accordingly, the total cargo throughput of the city’s ports in 9 months of 2014 hit 48,487 million tons, rising 20% against the same period of 2013 and equivalent to the figure of the whole year of 2012. All commodities through Haiphong sea port have witnessed a growth. In terms of sea transport, exports increased by 18%, imports rose by 14% and locally-made goods went up 20% over the same period last year. Particularly, container goods achieved a breakthrough growth with 2.4 million TEU, equivalent to 28.5 million tons, up 18%. Inland waterway transport in 9 months of 2014 also soared over the same period last year, reaching 7.1 million tons, up 40%, in which dry cargoes rose 42% and liquid cargoes increased by 19%. |
