PANO – The sustainability of responsible tourism development in Vietnam was debated in a meeting on November 13th in Ho Chi Minh City by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNTA) and the EU-funded Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program (EU Project in short).
Addressing the event, Deputy Director of the VNTA Ha Van Sieu highlighted the initiative of responsible tourism in bringing new look for Vietnam’s tourism and making it competitive in the region and the rest of the world.
Speeches delivered at the meeting gave a general view on the responsible tourism, the need of this kind of tourism and also specified who are responsible for.
Vu Quoc Tri, Director of the EU Project pointed out key factors to make responsible tourism in Vietnam sustainable as full awareness of responsible tourism, state-level policy framework, commitments of partners and sustainable maintenance of outcomes of the EU Project.
Meanwhile, the EU Project’s international expert Hawkins Pham introduced an initiative of the Tourism Advisors’ Council, based on public-private dialogue to make state organs closer to enterprises. This council will be run with an aim of enhancing Vietnam’s competitiveness as a responsible tourism destination.
Delegates also discussed tourism marketing and promotion, destination management and competitiveness, as well as education and vocational training.
