(VOV) – A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Phan Thiet airport was held in Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province on January 18.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked relevant ministries, Binh Thuan province and other stakeholders to work closely to ensure the construction progress and safety.
Phan Thiet airport is situated on 543 hectares and will be used for military and civilian purposes.
The airport is expected to accommodate Su27, Su30, AN26, A320, A321 and other types of aircraft and up to 500,000 passengers a year.
Corporation 319, under the Ministry of Defense will undertakes the construction of military items in the form of BT (Build-Transfer).
In civilian category, Rang Dong Joint Stock Company will invest VND1,640 billion in the construction in the form of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer).
Phan Thiet airport is planned to be completed in 2018, helping to ensure national defense and socio-economic development of the country in general and Binh Thuan province in particular.
