PANO – These days, when spring is coming, overseas Vietnamese (OVs) from all over the world are coming home to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet). Together, they bring their heart and mind home to build the country.
The People’s Army Newspaper Online would like to introduce several interviews with some OVs on this occasion.
Ms. Dao Thi Hoang Anh (OV in France): Tet at home is always the best
The first time I observed the Lunar New Year in Vietnam was in 1975. In France and other countries, OVs do not hold Tet as a big event like Vietnam. Coming back to Vietnam, meeting friends and relatives makes me feel so moved of happiness. Tet at home is always the best.
Prof. Bui Ngoc Chau (OV in Switzerland): Vietnam needs to develop high-tech sectors
We are lagged behind in science and technology development, especially in chip production. I was invited to the National University, Ho Chi Minh City to work as an advisor and I am working to develop the chip sector, which is still new to Vietnam. We are the newcomer in this field. Therefore, if we follow suitable steps and practice sound strategies, the prospect is bright.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Thuan (OV in Denmark): Vietnamese need to change practices
Each time I come home, I see more development. However, I still see that there are practices that Vietnamese should change. For example, Vietnamese should better abide by the traffic law, say “Thank you” and “Sorry” more often, and be more punctual, etc. Accuracy must be upheld in every aspect so that a modern industry society can be reached.
Mr. Chau Van Chi (Chairman of the Vietnamese-Cambodian Association): More preferential policies for OVs needed
Over the past years, the Party and State have practiced good policies to attract OVs home for investment. Cambodian businesses still need more suitable preferential policies with focus on the administrative procedure reforms. We pay more attention to the agricultural sector and hope to stand more cooperation chances in agricultural and aquaculture product processing industry. Currently, many Vietnamese and Cambodian enterprises have cooperated in doing business, opening up better opportunities for economic development.
