(Cinet)- Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thu Thuy was awarded an honorable mention at the eighth annual International Design Awards (IDA) held in Los Angeles.


The artist created a concrete, lotus-shaped fountain decorated with thousands of mosaic tiles at Mai Xuan Thuong Garden in Ha Noi. The work marked the 60th anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day on October 10, 2014.


The awards were announced on March 26 by juries that examined 1,000 entries submitted by architects and designers of interiors, fashion, products, and graphics from 52 countries throughout the world.


Thuy received a certificate from the Guinness World Records for the Largest Ceramic Mosaic – Ha Noi’s Thang Long mural completed in 2010.


Artist Thu Thuy said that she is very proud and happy of her achievements as hers attempts and efforts to develop public art to beautify the city has been recognised by international leading professional designers. The prize is also expected to change people’s perceptions of adorning public spaces, she said.


The IDA, established in 2007, is held annually in Los Angeles, USA, with the aim of recognising, honouring and promoting legendary design visionaries and uncovering emerging talents in architecture, interior, product, graphic and fashion design on a global level.
