Theproject’s targets are to build up a management system and realise socialassistance in favour of effective poverty reduction, according to theVietnam Government Portal (VPG).
It will support poorhouseholds with children aged 1-15 or above 15 in three pilot provinces,namely northern Ha Giang, central Quang Nam and Lam Dong in the CentralHighlands.
The project aims to narrow assistancepolicies by offering a package of aid and separating social welfaresupport for minimum living standards and provision of social securityservices.
It also targets putting an end to theoverlapping of social policies which have led to human resources lossesand irregular support for the beneficiaries.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan proposedthe re-building of a national social welfare database in line withResolution 20/NQ-TW of the 9th Communist Party of Vietnam CentralCommittee.
So far, 2.65 million people have got access to regular social assistance policies, 5.5 times higher than the 2006 figure.
Vietnam is home to 432 social sponsor centres which are taking care of 42,000 disadvantaged and homeless people.-VNA
