(VOV) -Vietnam’s international GM Le Quang Liem secured fourth place at the 2013 World Rapid Chess Championship held in Russia from June 6-8.

World No14 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov from Azerbaijan won the championship title after defeating Vietnamese Grandmasters Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son.
Russians Ian Nepomniachtchi and Alexander Grischuk came in second and third, respectively.
Liem gave an outstanding performance on his last day of competition, June 8, recording three wins and two draws. Liem opened his lucky day with a victory in the 11th round against host rival Dmitry Jakovenko and drew in a game with Vladimir Akopian, also from Russia, in the following round.
He also claimed two consecutive wins against Russia’s IldarKhairullin and Ivan Cheparinov in the 13th and 14th rounds before drawing in the 15th round against Russian defending champion Dmitry Andreikin, who won the 2010 World Junior Chess Championships.
Liem’s 10 points at the 2013 competition was his best performance at a World Chess Federation (FIDE) international event.
