Hanoian Association raises profile in Germany

(VOV) – Over the past three years, the Hanoi People’s Association in Germany has carried out a host of activities, increasing its role and position among other expat communities in the country.



It celebrated the millennial anniversary of Hanoi in 2010, raised funds for handicapped children and Agent Orange/dioxin victims in Vietnam, arranged Hanoi leaders’ visits, and held cultural and businesss exchanges.


These activities have drawn the participation of large numbers of Hanoians who are living, studying and working in Germany, Assocaition President Nguyen Xuan Hung said at the association’s third anniversary celebration in Berlin on June 15.


First Secretary of the Vietnamese embassy in Germany Nguyen Thi Bich Thao highly complimented the association’s activities which help validate the overseas Vietnamese community and strengthen the solidarity between expat associations.


On the occasion, the diplomat also announced a number of upcoming community activities such as exchanges between domestic and foreign businesses, summer camps for Vietnamese children abroad, and an Asian cultural festival in Potsdam this August.


For the first time, the semi-finals and finals of the Sao Mai (Morning Star) television singing contest for the European regionbe held in Berlin, she said.
