(VOV) – Vietnamese chess stars Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Le Quang Liem both recorded wins and draws in the ongoing 2013 World Blitz and Rapid Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, on June 7.
The second day of competition began with the rapid chess event in which Son drew with Pavel Skatchkov of Russia in the sixth match.
He later obtained four consecutive wins over Russians Rakhim Pasiev, Dmitry Gordievsky and Aleksei Pridorozhni, and Mohammed AL-Sayed from Qatar.
Son has now collected 5.5 points after 10 matches in two days of competition.
Le Quang Liem opened the second day by drawing with the Russian, Igor Kurnosov. He then proceeded to triumph over Ilia Smirin of Israel and draw with Russian Alexander Grischuk before defeating Ernesto Inarkiev and losing to Ian Nepomniachtchi, both also from Russia.
Liem gained three more points after five matches on the second day for a current total of six points.
