(VOV) -Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh has climbed one notch in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) Men’s Singles rankings, reclaiming 9th place.
The quick rebound is mainly due to the 51,411 points his impressive performance earned at the 2013 Singapore Badminton Open semi-finals.
Indonesian Tommy Sugiato, who defeated Minh in Singapore, jumped six places to 7th while compatriot Sony Dwi Kuncoro fell three places to 10th.
China’s Wang Zhengming five place slide dropped him out of the top ten.
Despite not attending the Singapore competition, Malaysian Lee Chong Wei remained on top of the rankings, followed by China’s Chen Long and Du Pengyu, Thailand’s Ponsana, and Japan’s Kenichi Tago.
China’s Li Xuerin defended her lead in the Women’s Singles rankings despite being defeated by fellow Chinese player Wang Yihan. Yihan moved up three places to world no. 2.
India’s Saina Nehwal replaced Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in third and Germany’s Juliane Schenk was ranked fourth.
The first places in the men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles rankings went to South Korean pair So Sung Hyun/Lee Yong Dae and the Chinese duos of Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang and Xu Chen/Ma Jin.
