The Indonesian government has officially agreed to join the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Indonesian Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro said AIIB will assist Indonesia in promoting economic connectivity, particularly developing maritime infrastructure.

Indonesia is ready to work with other founding members to get the AIIB begin operating as soon as possible, he added.

With the inclusion of Indonesia, AIIB now has 22 member countries and economies in Asia, including China, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

With a 50 percent stake, China will be the largest stakeholder and the biggest donor for AIIB.-VNA
