A coffee service on motorbikes and bicycles, which requires only a small investment capital but can generate big profit, have become more popular in HCM City.

These shops only cost some VND5-10 million (USD238-476) to buy materials, tools and the means of transport. The advertising boards with phone numbers are very attractive to people. People only need to make a phone call to enjoy a cup of “take-away” coffee at their home. If they meet them on streets, they can wave down the vendor and get served.

Everyday each mobile coffee shop can sell dozens or even hundreds of cups, bringing its owner tens of millions of VND, particularly when they do not have spend money on hiring staff members or shop space.

Recognising the major profits that could be earned by the service, many traditional coffee shops, including luxury ones, offer take-away services. They often hire staff members on a salary of VND100,000-150,000 per day.

These mobile coffee shops compete with traditional shops. However, their quality seems to be a question as the owner can still make big profit despite selling their coffee at low prices. Meanwhile, the hot weather can also affect the coffee quality.
