Vietnam can become ASEAN’s production base

(VEN) – With efforts from both government and businesses, support industries are changing robustly, and Vietnam can become a production base in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region,” Hanoi Industry and Trade Department Deputy Director Dao Thu Vinh said at a signing ceremony for an agreement reached recently in Hanoi, regarding the co-organization of Vietnam Manufacturing Export 2013 (VME 2013) and Industrial Components & Subcontracting Vietnam 2013 (ICS 2013), between the Hanoi Trade Promotion Center (HTPC) and the Reed Tradex Company.

Support industries have played a vital role in providing materials, components and accessories to improve competitiveness of the Vietnamese industrial sector in recent years.


Many Japanese and Singaporean partners consider Vietnam as their satellite provider of components. Vietnam is currently a printing machine and photocopier production base for many leading brand names in Japan and neighboring countries. Samsung launched a large component production line in Vietnam, and it will soon be followed by Nokia, contributing to boosting support industries in the country. Vinh believed that Vietnam would be able to become a leader in the region in terms of manufacturing if it makes the most of technology to improve the quality of its products.


Apart from organizing the exhibitions, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade will launch an engineering retraining course to support businesses develop their human resources and maximize benefits by learning high technology.


“Vietnamese producers should visit and take part in exhibitions, which offer opportunities for them to link with regional leading importers. Also by learning and applying new production technology businesses will improve the quality of their products to meet strict requirements of regional and world leading assemblers and importers,” said Hanoi Trade Promotion Center Deputy Director Nguyen Tran Quang.


At the signing ceremony experts said that Vietnamese support industries proved their position in the region by generating economic efficiency and increasing the content of high technology in their products. Vietnamese products, such as electronic components, packaging, mechanical spare parts and electric materials, can compete with their rivals in the region.


Reed Tradex Deputy Director Duangdej Yuaikwarmdee, said that Vietnam had established a support industry system, which had attracted many domestic and foreign businesses, including foreign direct investment (FDI) from industrialized countries and territories such as Japan, the Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei. In addition, Vietnamese production businesses have joined Japan’s leading satellite business network. These include the Vietnam Precision Industrial Joint Stock Company (VPIC), YUOYI Plant Company Ltd. and Vietnam Precision Casting Company Ltd.








VME 2013 and ISC 2013 are scheduled to take place from September 4-6 at the Hanoi Cultural and Friendship Palace in Hanoi. Honda and Murata will display their Asimo and Murata Boy robots for the first time.

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will be established by 2015, stimulating the demand for development of the production sector. With outstanding support industries and a promising future for the electronics, automobile spare parts and motorbike industries, Vietnam will meet the need in the region as a result of its competitiveness in terms of prices, skills, expertise and proper products, which will together contribute to increasing Vietnam’s position in regional and global technology, said Duangdej./.
