The French cultural center L’Espace in Hanoi will host an exhibition throughout August for A Father’s Day, a new book with drawings by Thai My Phuong and accompanying verse by Nguyen Nhat Anh.
The month’s activities include a seminar on the book and related subjects at 6 p.m. on August 6. Admission is free.
Each picture in A Father’s Day is accompanied by four lines of verse about what a busy father encounters in a normal day.
L’Espace says the book’s appeal comes from the meticulous drawings in strange and vivid colors and the jolly poems which not only tell the father’s story but are also a true reflection of the cultural and social events that occur every day.
A graduate of the HCMC University of Architecture, Thai My Phuong is an established artist who mainly paints for children. Her many works include Legend of the Watermelon, Treasure Sun, and Ai and Ky in the Land of the Invisible Numbers. She also collaborates with the teen magazines Hoa Hoc Tro, Thien Than Nho and others. She lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Nhat Anh is known for his translations of Petit Nicolas, Captain Underpants and The Little Prince and other classics, and is also an established writer and anthology compiler.
Institut Français de Hanoi – L’Espace is located at 24 Tràng Tiền Street, Hanoi.
