(VOV) – Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a gold medal in the 200m backstroke event at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in China on August 21.
She took the lead right from the start and after 50 meters, she was 17 percent of the second ahead of Korean rival Im Dasol.
Finally, the Can Tho-born girl finished first, clocked at 2min12sec65, 2sec44 ahead of the Korean rival.
Previously, Vien bagged a silver medal in the 100m backstroke event, just behind Korean rival Im Dasol.
Another gold medal went to Nguyen Thi Truc Mai in the women’s long jump event. She defeated strong rivals of China and Thailand to place first with achievement of 5m90.
In the under-47kg women’s taekwondo event, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen bagged a bronze medal after losing 4-9 to China’s Fu Yu in the semi-final.
Vietnam is now placed 11th with 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.
