City exports hit $15b in first seven months

HCM City fetched a total export value of $15.8 billion in the first seven months of this year, equal to the figure for the same period last year, Vo Van Luan, office manager of the city’s government, said.


The city’s industrial production has shown signs of recovery with the seven-month index rising 5.3 per cent compared to 5.2 per cent growth in the same period last year.

Quang Ngai to build schools for ethnic groups


A project to build schools for students from ethnic minority groups has been approved by the Quang Ngai Province People’s Committee.


Under the project, 74 primary and senior secondary day-boarding schools will be built from now to 2020 in the central province.

Khanh Hoa develops satellite hospital


The south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa will spend VND50 billion (US$2.38 million) on developing its satellite hospital programme this year.


Accordingly, the Cho Ray Hospital and Oncology Hospital of HCM City will build satellite hospitals in the province. The hospitals will also offer training courses to upgrade the skills of local doctors and nurses.

Road traffic accident numbers down in July


The Ministry of Transport reported 2,368 traffic accidents last month, with 736 deaths and 2,297 injuries, a decrease of 63 deaths and 217 injured.


Most accidents were caused by drivers breaking traffic laws, drinking or using cellphones while driving.

Experts alarmed at high obesity rate


The rate of obese and overweight children aged 6 to 11 has reached 30 per cent in HCM City, according to a survey by the HCM City Nutrition Institute.


The survey results were revealed at a conference held in the city to discuss nutrition plans. Experts blamed the situation on inappropriate eating habits and physical inactivity.
