The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and UNESCO held a consultative meeting with local stakeholders on the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) initiative in Viet Nam on 24 August in Hue City.
The initiative is part of a global agreement between UNESCO and Samsung that aims to enhance education system and local community responses to contemporary challenges to sustainable development. Viet Nam is the first country to take part in the initiative. During the meeting, MOET and UNESCO representatives met with local stakeholders to discuss strategies and recommendations for the successful implementation of the project.
Speaking at the meeting, UNESCO Representative to Viet Nam, Katherine Muller-Marin, stressed that in an intersectoral project with involvement of numerous stakeholders, participation and commitment are critical to the initiative’s success.
The overall objective of the project is to support Viet Nam to shape a more resilient and sustainable learning society by strengthening education systems’ and local communities’ responses to the challenges of climate change, disasters and biodiversity loss.
