The Ministries of Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction and Natural Resources and Environment are being asked to coordinate for the building of more hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan recently presided over a meeting with the above ministries for the construction of more hospitals in the two biggest cities in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Health had before sent a report on building of more hospitals with shared capital from state-owned enterprises which had been approved by the Deputy Prime Minister.
The above Ministries will complete the project in coordination with the Ministry of Health. The new hospitals should be able to treat five main diseases relating to the heart, tumor, plastic surgery, maternal and pediatric care, in order to reduce pressure on other hospitals and also provide better treatment.
These hospitals should be modern, well located and prove effective operationally. Four hospitals will be constructed in available hospital space like Bach Mai, Viet Duc and Central Maternity in Hanoi; in orthopedic premise of Hospital 175, and one hospital for the elderly in HCMC.
The construction of these hospitals will be around VND20,000 billion (US$949 million) from shared capital of state-run enterprises including 20 percent from reserve capital.
The Deputy PM also asked the Ministry of Health to complete the hospital plan and submit to the Prime Minister by the fourth quarter of the year.
