Vietnam wins two gold medals at Asian Youth Games

Vietnam won two gold medals in the swimming and women’s long jump categories at the 2013 Asian Youth Games, held in Nanjing (China) from August 16-24.

Asian Youth Games are an international sports event and held every four years. The first Asian Youth Games were held in Singapore.


Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien performed excellently in the women’s 200 meter backstroke and won the first gold medal.


In the men’s 200 meter backstroke, although athlete Nguyen Ngoc Trien performed well, he only ranked seventh to reach the semifinal round.


In tennis, athlete Ly Hoang Nam defeated Chinese athlete Yang Shao Chi and will compete in the semifinals against Kazakhstan athlete Popko Dmitriy.


In the women’s long jump, athlete Nguyen Thi Truc Mai brought in the second gold medal for Vietnam. Until now, the Vietnamese athletes have won two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze at the 2013 Asian Youth Games.
