(VOV) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has urged American International Group (AIG) Inc recognize Vietnam’s potential and expand its investments in the Vietnamese insurance market.
Ninh issued the suggestion at a September 17 reception in Hanoi for visiting AIG Inc Property and Casualty Insurance Executive Vice President Peter Hancock.
The Deputy PM praised the group’s efforts to overcome recent financial crises, especially via its successful equitisation of subsidiary companies. Vietnam needs to learn from AIG’s restructuring experiences and apply those lessons to public investments.
The Vietnamese insurance market boasts great potential for further development. Its demands for agricultural insurance are particularly promising for investors bold enough to seize the opportunity. Ninh noted the group’s investment expansion would inspire other companies to consider involving themselves in Vietnam’s infrastructure development.
Hancock briefed Ninh on his group’s successes and AIG business operations in India and the US.
He committed AIG to increasing investments in the Vietnamese insurance market and the country’s broader economy.
