HCM CITY (VNS) — J Morell, one of Asia’s rising DJs, will bring techno beats for just one night to Park Hyatt Saigon’s 2 Lam Son Martini Bar next month.
The artist, born Romel Johan in Malaysia, started his spinning career by playing in local underground parties around Kuala Lumpur at 15.
In 2003 he was the youngest contestant in the first Heineken Juice DJ Quest and finished 1st runner-up to kick start his career and become a familiar face at some of Malaysia’s finest clubs.
He was offered a weekly radio show focusing on techno and house, which became popular.
At 17 J Morell was offered a resident DJ gig at one of Malaysia’s top clubs, Atmosphere.
He quickly built a following for his signature 3-turntable sets and was also known to spin an average of 35 to 50 records per hour.
He found himself touring extensively and playing for major events like Redzone The Official Ferrari F1 Pit Party and The Electrosonic Festival when he was not.
He produced a track called Offshoot, which made it to the top of charts.
J Morell will perform at 2 Lam Son Martini Bar at 9.30pm on October 18. — VNS
