(VOV) – Top Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh has climbed two notches to sixth position in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

Minh gained a total of 58896.72 points, 1380 points higher than the previous rankings due to the fact that he entered the semi-final of the recent Japan Open championships.

He also defended his championship title in the national badminton championship that concluded in HCM City on September 27. This victory brought him a bonus of US$1,100 and set a record for winning the national championship title 11 times.

There were significant changes in the BWF rankings. Second position of Japan Open Kenichi Tago jumped to fourth to replace Boonsak Ponsana (Thailand). Jan Jorgensen (Denmark) climbed to fifth.

Being disqualified from Japan Open earlier, Boonsak Ponsana (Thailand) fell to eighth and Hu Yun (Hong Kong) was eliminated from the top ten.
