According to the Directorate of Fisheries, from 2010 to July 2013, domestic and foreign organizations and individuals have assisted fishermen with some VND760 billion for offshore fishing activities.
The information was announced during the meeting held on September 9 in Da Nang city to review 3 years of implementation of the Prime Minister’s decision on carrying out policies to support fishermen in their offshore fishing.
The Directorate of Fisheries said that, of the VND760 billion, VND630 billion was spent on fuel, VND10 billion on insurance, nearly VND70 billion on communication equipment, and VND5.5 on building onshore stations.
In addition, nearly 15,300 boatmen were supported with accident insurance.
Over the past 3 years, over 6,000 ships from 20 coastal provinces and cities have been allowed to fish offshore and receive the assistance, which contributes to promoting offshore fishing, improving fishermen’s lives and ensuring security and sovereignty at sea.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, many localities are carrying out diverse measures to encourage society to assist fishermen, of which Binh Dinh province has assisted fishermen with VND363 billion, Quang Ngai province with over VND119 billion, Khanh Hoa province with VND63 billion and Binh Thuan province with VND42 billion.
Many localities have set up teams of ships and boats to provide services for offshore fishing to promptly purchase the catch and distribute fuel, food, water and medicine to fishermen.
So far, 15 provinces and cities have constructed onshore contact stations and provided over 2,000 remote contact machines, integrated with the Global Positioning System(GPS)./.
