General Giap commemorated abroad

(VOV) – Vietnamese embassies overseas have held sombre ceremonies in remembrance of General Vo Nguyen Giap who passed away on October 4.



At an October 11-12 ceremony in Havana, Cuba, embassy staff, representatives from Vietnamese agencies, overseas Vietnamese and foreign guests offered incense in honour of General Giap who devoted his whole life to national independence and freedom.


The Second Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, who is also first Vice-President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers, and senior lieutenant general Leopoldo Cintras Frias, the Cuban Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces, paid tribute to the revered Vietnamese General.


Representatives from the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association, diplomatic corps and hundreds of soldiers, armed forces, and local people also paid their last respects to the General.


***The Vietnamese Embassies in Angola, Germany, the UK, Egypt and Russia also held ceremonies to commemorate General Vo Nguyen Giap.


Mourners acknowledged the great contributions of General Vo Nguyen Giap – the greatest military strategist of Vietnam during the two resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists in the 20th century.


Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Vu Quang Minh emphasised that General Vo Nguyen Giap is a national hero and greatest General, respected and admired by not only all Vietnamese people but also international friends. His death has left Vietnamese peple and international frends with deep sadness and regret.
