VietNamNet Bridge – Weightlifter Do Thi Thu Hoai, women’s 48kg category, recorded the weight that is similar to the world bronze medal but she did not win the prize because her weight is 260g more than her rival.
In the women’s 48 kg snatch competition on October 21 at the World Weightlifting Championships in Wroclaw, Poland, Thu Hoai was the only hope of Vietnam. Even in the first snatch, Thu Hoai exceeded 78 kg. She raised the weight to over 80 kg but she failed in the next two snatches.
Here rival, Carolina Valencia of Mexico exceeded 78 kg in the third time and won the bronze medal. By weightlifting rules, if two weightlifters make the same records, the one whose weight is smaller will win. Hoai’s weight is 47.89kg, 260 grams more than Carolina Valencia so she did not win the medal.
In the clean and jerk competition later, Hoai lifted 98 kg weight and ranked fourth. For the total weight of the two jerks, Thu Hoai also ranked fourth with 176kg.
The gold medalist in this content is Tan Yayun of China with 199 kg, followed by Ryang Chun – Hwa of North Korea with 186 kg and Carolina Valencia of Mexico with 181 kg. Compared with athletes from Southeast Asia, Thu Hoai’s record is also quite high.
This morning, October 22, two other hopes of Vietnam’s weightlifting – Tran Le Quoc Toan and Thach Kim Tuan will enter the competition in the men’s 56 kg category.
