The UEFA Champions League trophy is planned to arrive in Vietnam for a parade down the streets of Ho Chi Minh City from March 3-6 2014, according to Heineken, the sponsor of the event.
Mr. Hans Erik Tuijt, Heineken’s global brand activation director, told Tuoi Tre, “The trophy will go on parade in three countries in 2014: Argentina, Nigeria, and Vietnam. Vietnam is selected as one of the three venues because the nation has a crazy love for football.”
He also promised to bring a football star to Vietnam to walk in the parade to add to the enthusiastic festival atmosphere.
The parade of the trophy in Vietnam will be part of the ‘Road to the final’ campaign to donate 20,000 tickets to fans across the world to watch the UEFA Champions League 2014. The campaign is sponsored by Heineken.
The UEFA Champions League is the most popular football tournament in the world, with almost four billion people across 220 nations watching it every season, according to the director.
“We have organized the parade of the trophy in nations around the world since 2007,” he added.
Heineken has extended its sponsorship contract with the organization board of the UEFA Champions League until 2018.
