Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has called on project contractors to open the Hanoi – Hai Phong highway to traffic by June 2015.

The Deputy PM made the request on November 23 while surveying the progress of the construction and giving directions on how to remove obstacles currently slowing the project’s implementation.

Since the project has fallen behind schedule, the Deputy PM asked contractors to employ financial and labour resources, as well as machinery, to meet the agreed upon timetable.

He asked authorities from localities in the highway’s path to address site-related issues in order to make way for the construction.

The 105 kilometre long Hanoi – Hai Phong highway is the first major national project to be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The project, which conforms to international standards, begins in Hanoi, traverses Hung Yen and Hai Duong provinces, and ends in Hai Phong.

As of September 30, the project’s disbursement level had reached VND 18.42 trillion, accounting for 39.2% of total committed investment. The site clearance work has nearly been completed, with 99.26% of apportioned land handed over to contractors, but a few obstacles that remain to be resolved are slowing down progress.
