Looking for Closer Technological Cooperation between Vietnam and Russian Enterprises

The Conference on Technology and Enterprises between Vietnam and Russia, recently held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commence and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Hanoi, attracted many Vietnamese and Russian enterprises.


Russian business delegation, consisting of mostly reputable businesses and large corporations, met and directly exchanged information with Vietnamese enterprises. Five areas discussed at the conference include biotechnology and healthcare; machinery manufacturing; chemicals and industrial detergents; electrical devices and energy; information technology and geological exploration.


According to Mr Pham Gia Tuc, VCCI Vice President, the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in the past time, particularly in recent years, have been actively developing in all areas: politics – diplomatics, economy – trade; security – national defense; science and technology; education – training; culture, tourism, etc.


Currently, investment cooperation between Vietnam and Russia is continuing to expand with the deployment of large scale cooperation projects in the fields of energy, mining, telecommunications, services, training and banking, etc. The two sides pledged to continue to encourage and create favourable conditions for their businesses. A series of projects has been accelerated.


Mr Tuc said that 2013 marked an important step in bilateral cooperation. Vietnam and Russia showed their determination to realise their comprehensive strategic partnership set out by the leaders of the two countries. The event of Vietnam and the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) launched the first Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Vietnam and the Customs Union in late March 2013. The newly formed FTA will facilitate the flow of goods, services and investment between the two countries, reduce transaction costs for businesses, and promote stable growth of economic, trade and investment activities between the two sides.


“Russia is a country with strong potential in economy, finance and technology, especially in the fields of mechanical engineering, renewable energy, mining, automation, industrial production, environment industry and supporting industries. Vietnam has great advantages of abundant human resources, diverse natural resources and a favourable geographical position. Vietnam is also considered a country with stable politics, economy and social affairs and guaranteed security with promising economic development prospects towards market mechanism and open international economic integration,” Mr Tuc asserted.


Also according to Mr Tuc, with the advantage of long relations and complementary import-export structure between Vietnam and Russia, Vietnam will be an attractive market for businesses and investors from Russia. In the process of regional and international economic integration, Vietnam always welcomes and creates the most favorable conditions for Russian businesses as well as other partners to do business and invest in Vietnam.


“Hopefully at this conference, Russian and Vietnamese businesses will find opportunities for investment suitable with their potential and interests, particularly in areas where Vietnam is recommending investment such as new energy development, renewable energy, supporting industries, high-tech industries, green industry, mechanical engineering, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, information technology, agricultural, forestry and fishery product processing, construction and infrastructure development, education, training, healthcare, tourism, etc.,” said Mr Tuc.


Ms Strozaeva Lubov Viktorovna, Director of the project “Portrait of technological innovation of Russia,” said that leaders of Russia and Vietnam have repeatedly confirmed the positive wish to develop technological innovation projects in promising economic areas, helping the two business communities to establish and expand partnerships and to find ways of effective cooperation in the fields of trade and investment. Intergovernmental relation between Vietnam and Russia is based on a solid foundation. At this conference, this relation has been strengthened in a positive way because of the general interest in the modernisation of the two economies and the application of scientific achievements in actual production.


Ms Strozaeva Viktorovna shared that a series of activities in Vietnam coordinated under the theme “Russia – Vietnam: New Economy” is accomplished by the management board of information-publishing project of “New Economy. Portrait of Russian technological innovation,” with the purpose of providing information for business cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the field of advanced technology which practically applies the most advanced technology of Russia into Vietnamese enterprises, expanding the possibilities for integration, business cooperation, and technology innovation of the two countries.


The project aims to hold direct dialogue of the business world of high-tech business of the two countries. There have been several visits by Russian and Vietnamese businessmen within the framework of the project. A number of Russian and Vietnamese businessmen have decided to establish a joint venture. “This is just the beginning of the technological cooperation between the two countries which is growing fast,” said Ms Strozaeva Lubov Viktorovna.


Ms Strozaeva Lubov Viktorovna also pressed that power projects, transportation projects and other large mixed projects under the support of Russian and Vietnamese governments have formed the basis for the large-scale cooperation in industry and trade.
