After carrying out the largest-scale emigration to escape the attack of destructive typhoon, HAIYAN early the month, Quang Ngai’s government and people have again faced the worst flood in the province since Friday, November 15. Flood rose above a previous peak measured in 1999, submerging many houses.
Losses
Devastating floods have killed at least15 people and left 19 others injured, after range of heavy rains dumped in this central province, a source from Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee said, adding that 1 people is missing.
Formed by tropical depression, as many as prolonged-non-stop-heavy rains brought an incredible rabid increase of water which was described to be a deluge as the worst for over a decade.
It destroyed nearly 1,000 houses, and caused the worst flooding for all lowland areas and serious landslides in mountainous districts of the province.
Most traffic roads in highland as well as lowland were cut by floods and landslides, as many as low-lying areas and riverside villages were isolated.
Roads have been closed due to floods and some national train services cancelled. The national transport network was cut almost one day by high water level on the national highway No.1A at the section of Binh Son district.
The flood swept away all unharvested farming products and killed many animals as well as poultries.
Emigration
After carrying out the historical evacuation of over 200,000 people in seaside and vulnerable communes running away the path of deadly typhoon, Quang Ngai’s party and government have again made their best efforts in moving over 11,500 families in flooded areas to safer places.
A red warning about the worst - the province's highest level of warning - was announced to urgently deal with the serious flood.
Saving residents and their personal properties was the key mission of all task forces as well as directive authorities at grassroots.
Provincial leaders were divided into groups accessing to flooded areas for their instant directive roles, and mobilizing all resources to recover damages and as well as support residents.
With 130 km seaside road, Quang Ngai is among the affected provinces of the central region of Vietnam. It also causes more than 100,000 houses had been flooded and transport by road, air and rail has been severely affected across the region.
