According to Marques, Starbucks still plans to expand business in Vietnam in the long term. It is probable that more stores could go up in another city next year, she said. A source said the city Marques implied was Hanoi with the first Starbucks possibly up and operating in the capital city in next year’s second quarter.
However, Marques admitted the Vietnamese market was really competitive, explaining why Starbucks with a long-term investment vision is looking for a growth strategy in a prudent manner to ensure its success in the long term. Starbucks brand is being favored by Vietnamese customers and this makes the firm happier than any other things, she said.
Starbucks entered the local market by opening the first store in HCMC in February 2013 through a franchise business between Starbucks with Viet Idea Foodstuff and Beverage Co., a member of Hong Kong’s Maxim Group.
The first Starbucks store saw many people queuing in long lines to buy coffee for the first few days, but since the second store opened six months later, also in HCMC, it has been less crowded. The third store that began service in the city last month has attracted a lot of people as observed by the Daily.
The second store at the corner of Nguyen Du and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia streets opened in August but is said to be unattractive to customers. Marques confirmed that the business of the store remained stable. She said every store of Starbucks had its own style meeting demand of many kinds of customers, from families, businessmen and office workers to young people.
The store at the corner of Nguyen Du Street is for serving office workers of the building where it is located and surrounding areas, she said, adding every Starbucks store has its own clients and that the firm is still happy with the business performance here.
Each Monday afternoon, Starbucks still holds free training courses for customers on how to enjoy coffee, from differentiating smells and tastes to combining biscuits and fruits and making coffee.
