(VEN) – Pausing his thriving businesses, Tran Van Kieu decided to study waste treatment. After two years of hard work he has launched a cheaper and efficient domestically produced integrated waste treatment system.
Waste concerns
In the cool weather of a late autumn day, we moved along Highway 18 to Xuan Tien Commune, Xuan Truong District, Nam Dinh Province to meet Tran Van Kieu and found him at the landfill in Xuan Tien guiding technicians to install a garbage treatment system.
Born and raised in the mechanical commune of Xuan Tien, Tran Van Kieu was familiar to hammer and anvil and he told himself to grow rich from the traditional occupation. In 2001, he graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Faculty of Information Technology) and assumed the position of Director of Information Technology at the Southeast Asia Scientific Research Institutute. In 2009, he decided to return home and established the Tan Thien Phu Co., Ltd.
As his company thrived on production of machinery used in the breeding industry, he unexpectedly turned to study waste treatment as he notice that along with the development of his industrial village the waste management and treatment became a hot issue as it caused serious environmental pollution.
Waste treatment success
Kieu plunged himself into studying waste treatment system and after months of hard working, his integrated waste treatment system was manufactured in 2012 and certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality , and was licensed to use.
To complete the waste treatment system Kieu and his colleagues must exert huge efforts, working days and nights, traveling to eye waste treatment models from South to North.
Kieu spent most of his day time on his project and left his wife Tran Thi Thanh Van running his small family which was quite a burden on her but she still smiled at hardships believing her husband was right.
“After his successful registration of the patent, Kieu’s system has interested many customers from provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Dong Nai,” Van said in pride.
Tran Van Kieu is now busy completing his waste treatment plant on a 10,000sq.m landfill area in Xuan Tien Commune, with an investment of around VND3 billion. This plant is built from his own money for the commune and is about to go into operation in November. |
According to Kieu, this integrated waste treatment system is not only power efficient, but also takes advantage of the benefits of advanced waste treatment technology in the world. “The cost for such a system is about VND300 million, and you need only to spend approximately VND15,000 to treat a tonne of waste. In addition, this system is able to handle all types of waste including metals, ceramics, glass, tiles, rocks, and bones at designed capacity of about 100 tonnes per day.
Nguyen Ha, an inhabitant at Xuan Tien Commune, said “since Kieu’s integrated waste treatment system was put into use, the local environmental pollution caused by waste has been curbed.”/.
