Voters in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak have proposed that the government pour more investment into infrastructure work in the locality, especially in transport, irrigation and power systems.

During meetings on December 3-4 with Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, the voters asked for more attention to the quality improvement of the education and training and healthcare sectors, particularly in remote and mountainous areas where many people from ethnic groups live.

Easier access to capital from banks should also be created so that people from these communities can develop their production, reducing poverty and improving their income, they said.

The voters also expressed their pleasure at the outcomes of the recent NA sixth session, with the introduction of the amended Constitution and the approval of a number of laws, especially the revised Land Law.

Highly valuing the frank and enthusiastic opinions of Dak Lak voters, the NA Vice Chairwoman promised to send all of their proposals to the NA, Government and relevant ministries.

Phong, who is also a Politburo member, lauded the locality’s efforts in maintaining security and social safety, as well as achievements in reducing poverty, consolidating solidarity among ethnic groups and ensuring social welfares for locals.

On December 4, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also met voters in Ha Long city, the northern province of Quang Ninh.

He briefed them on the socio-economic results in 2013 and the positive signals of economic recovery. Despite the gloomy global economic situation, Vietnam still records 5.4 percent growth this year, while keeping the inflation rate between 6.5 to 7.5 percent, he revealed.

In 2013, Vietnam has reduced the trade deficit and expects to earn a total export revenue of 121 billion USD, he said.

Regarding external relations, he said this year Vietnam has gained a number of significant successes in expanding and deepening ties with many countries.

Currently, Vietnam has built strategic partnerships with 13 countries and comprehensive strategic partnerships with 10 others, becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to share such relations with five United Nations Permanent member states, he noted proudly.-VNA
