VGP – Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam on December 28 talked with 650 excellent students nationwide on the occasion of the 9th National Congress of Vietnamese Students’ Association.

The event drew the participation of Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Trang Quang Quy, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tran Nam, and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien.


“This is an important political event of Vietnamese students who have lofty and high ideals; bright revolutionary morals; healthy lifestyles,” said Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of the HCM Communist Youth Union.


Deputy PM Dam answered frank questions on various issues ranging from his desire, to hot topics like the youth’s role, education, national defense, international relations.


Regarding the Deputy PM’s desire and working experience, he stressed that each person should try his best to perform his task and that would help build a prosperous Viet Nam.


For protection of the national defense, Deputy PM Dam said every Vietnamese cares about the destiny of the nation.


Today, the national sovereignty must be protected on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.


He tasked the Office of Government to publish the book on 100 questions on sea and islands for the Vietnamese youth as soon as possible so that students would learn from it.


For the Government’s preparations for students to join the ASEAN Community by 2015, Deputy PM Dam asked how they have prepared for that movement in order to show an active, responsible Viet Nam in the international community.


Regarding the quality of tertiary education, Deputy PM Dam affirmed that the Government will adopt more measures to comprehensively innovate teaching and learning methods to produce high-quality workforce for international integration process.


The main reason for many students to be unemployed is the lack of industrial and service facilities. The quality of the workforce would be a favorable condition to attract foreign investment, he said.


The Government needs to give strong impetus to management mechanism in order to create favorable business environment for investors. Businesses also needs to coordinate closely with education establishments to produce desired workforce./.
