He, a talented musician with special success in the field of composing for children, has just once been to the Eastern land but already had two songs about Hai Duong.
Musician Truong Quang Luc and Hai Duong children
This was the second time musician Truong Quang Luc had come to Hai Duong early this December. Nonetheless, there have already been two songs about the land in his earlier composition fortune. They include a song for adults, “Hai Duong mot khuc tinh ca” (Hai Duong, a love song), and a song for children, “Hai Duong mien dat yeu thuong” (Hai Duong, a beloved land).
According to the musician, he has composed many songs about localities throughout the country but Hai Duong is the most special case because there are up to two songs about it, both of which were written after his very first arrival in the land.
He first visited Hai Duong in the period of the resistance war against the US aggressors; however, tied up in meetings all the time, he could not go to many places. He had only a few impressions about Hai Duong at that time.
In 1977, he made friends with a lot of Hai Duong natives after returning to the South. Therefore, he knew more about the land. He was very surprised and excited to learn that such celebrities as teacher Chu Van An and national hero Nguyen Trai, Con Son – Kiep Bac relic site, and Luc Dau river he had often heard about are all in Hai Duong.
As one of the first 40 members of the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, founded in 1957, he has discovered another interesting fact that many famous musicians in the association are Hai Duong natives, such as Do Nhuan and Pham Tuyen.
During the time in Ha Noi, he read and loved the poems of Tran Dang Khoa, a Hai Duong-born poet.
His affections for Hai Duong arose from the admiration and love for those talents.
He told himself that a small locality that bore so many talents must be a sacred land of extraordinary people.
With inspiration built up for many years, he composed two songs about Hai Duong in a short time.
“Hai Duong mot khuc tinh ca” and “Hai Duong mien dat yeu thuong” were written in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
His deepest memory of the songs was when a friend invited him to a get-together of Hai Duong fellows in Ho Chi Minh city, at which he heard a Hai Duong native sing the song “Hai Duong mot khuc tinh ca” very emotionally.
He was also given a self-recorded CD of the song. Although it was just an unprofessional performance, he was both happy and proud as his song had occupied a place in the heart of the Hai Duong expatriates.
During his second visit to Hai Duong, he went to the places he had previously known only through history books and poems, such as Con Son – Kiep Bac relic site, temple of teacher Chu Van An, and Chu Dau ceramic village.
The visit has made his affection for Hai Duong even deeper and more passionate.
Particularly, he once again had a chance of listening to the song “Hai Duong mien dat yeu thuong” performed by Hai Duong children after one month of practice on the stage of the provincial Children’s House.
The love of the public, especially of children, is always an invaluable reward that he treasures the most throughout his writing career.
Although meeting musician Truong Quang Luc in only a short time in Thanh Dong, I could see his profound love for children and Hai Duong during his dozens of years of composition.
The biggest thing remaining in the impressions about him as well as his works is a heartfelt and deep love.
