A poor mother in the northern province of Ha Nam is unable to see her small child who suffers from heart disease due to her very poor family condition.
The small girl is suffering from the heart diease Nguyen Thi Hai is the mother. She is 25 years old, from Du Nhan Village, Thanh Phong Commune, Thanh Liem District. In 2008, Hai got married to Cao Van Toan, who is four years older than her.
In 2010, they had the first child, a son named Cao Thanh Doanh. Two years later, they had a daughter named Cao Nguyen Khanh Linh.
Early this year, Doanh fell into a pond behind her house and drowned. After Doanh’s death, Linh suddenly became sick. The couple took their daughter to the hospital. They were shocked when doctors said that the girl had heart disease.
They then took the daughter to E Hospital in Hanoi for a second opinion. Doctors there said that she was in urgent need of surgery to save her life. However the family, who makes their living by farming, could not afford the surgery.
The farther sold everything they had of value in the house and tried to borrow money. Even though the surgery was said to be successful, the family still was in debt.
The farther worked hard to earn money for the next surgery and lost 22 kilogrammes. They still have to take their daughter to hospital for the treatment.
The young mother only knows to cry when thinking of her child
“I can’t bear to see my daughter to suffering. I lost my first child but can’t understand why God punishes the second. We have sold everything valuable to get her treatment. Now we do not know how to save her,” Hai said in tears.
Cao Viet Dung, Deputy Chairman of Thanh Phong Commune, said “Hai’s family is one of the poorest households in this locality. We called for local people’s help, but many of them are also poor, so the support is very modest.”
