Trang wins fifth stage, Le still on top in women’s cycling

Tran Thi Phuong Trang claimed the 180km fifth stage race of the International Binh Duong Women’s Cycling Tournament yesterday.


Trang, of the Vinh Binh An Giang Rice team, finished the stage from Lam Dong Province’s Bao Loc City to Binh Thuan Province’s La Gi Town in a time of 3h 04m 55s.


Cao Thi Cam Le of Binh Duong Environment and Water Supply-Drainage maintained her overall lead after five stages, with a combined time of 13:31:53.


Trang, Truong Thi Bich Nhien of Dong Thap Domesco Pharmacy and Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh from Ha Noi were the first to separate from the peloton, 90km from the finish.


They were later joined by Modh Radzi Mardiana of Malaysia and Pham Thi Kim Loan of Dong Thap.


Trang edged Mardiana in the final metres to win the stage, followed by Loan in third place.


In the overall rankings, Le is followed by Nguyen Thi Thi and Nguyen Thi That of An Giang.


That claimed the green jersey with 93 points with a stage to spare.


In the team rankings, Dong Thap leapt into the top spot with a total time of 40:36.17, with An Giang 11 seconds behind. Binh Duong follow in third with 40:39.03.


The final stage today will see racers tour 75km from La Gi to Vung Tau City.— VNS
