Restaurants in Hanoi have become busier at this time of the year when Tet is nearing with year-end parties of office staff, including those who do not have much work to do due to their company’s bad-performing business activities.

Staying at a restaurant on Cau Giay District from 4:00 p.m, Mr. Ha said, “I have nothing to do at the company, it is quite useless.”
Ha said he worked for a construction machinery equipment import company at eight hours per day, but, these days, the real working time is just 3-5 hours. At the end of the day, he and some of his colleagues come to restaurants for drinking.
He said that his company operates badly, and besides, the director, accountant and driver, the firm has only three staff members.
Despite the situation, many people do not want to move to other companies because they expect to receive a Tet bonus for their current company. Moreover, at this time of the year, most of companies do not often recruit new staff until at least March of the next year.
Mr. Hai from a construction company said, “I am very busy before the Western New Year when I have to complete procedures for the payment. But after that, I am very fee and started the Tet holiday from that time.”
Restaurants along many streets such as Duong Quang Ham, Nghia Tan, Van Cao, Kim Ma in Hanoi are quite crowded late afternoon. Hot spot is the most popular dish for customers at these cold days.
The season for profits at restaurants
Restaurants lend out dishes at this time, such as bowls and other kitchen equipmen. Two and three hours later, they will come to companies to take the tools and receive the payment.
Each hot pot is priced at between VND300.000 – 600.000, depending on materials and the number of people.
Mr. Dong, owner of a hot spot restaurant in Cau Giay District, said this is the good time for restaurants, particularly cheap-priced ones to make money. His restaurant has become crowded right after the Western New Year. Sometimes, he has to refuse to receive more customers due to the lack of seats.
